AGF recently celebrated its annual Health and Safety Week from April 29 to May 3.
The goal was to highlight this core value through activities designed to strengthen our commitment and continue to raise awareness about OHS among our teams in AGF’s shops, construction sites, and offices across Canada.
Week overview
The week featured information sessions, various activities, and several site visits. Different themes were covered each day.
Day 1 – Nutrition: Discussions focused on the importance of good eating habits, educating workers on how proper nutrition can improve performance and safety at work.
Day 2 – Mental health: This segment focused on workers’ psychological well-being, providing resources and strategies for managing stress and mental health challenges at work.
Day 3 – Rigging and emergency measures: Practical training and discussions took place on the correct procedures for rigging equipment, with demonstrations to prevent accidents. There were also discussions on emergency measures, and some divisions conducted evacuation drills to be better prepared.
Day 4 – Ergonomics: Workers were made aware of the importance of ergonomics in preventing injuries. The sessions included practical tips on proper posture, lifting techniques, and workstation setup to minimize physical strain.
Day 5 – Housekeeping: The importance of a clean and well-maintained work environment was discussed. In shops, preventive maintenance of machines and protocols for debris and scrap were highlighted.
To wrap up the week, some divisions organized team meals to discuss the safety topics covered and share experiences.
Fun activities
Several divisions added fun elements to the week. In Longueuil, a word search puzzle was set up in all cafeterias, reflecting the day’s theme. In Calgary, a treasure hunt was organized in the shop. Staff, grouped into teams, had to take photos of specific safety items, making the exercise both educational and enjoyable.
1000 days without any lost-time accident for the Calgary division
We also want to highlight that, during the Health and Safety Week, our Calgary shop celebrated a significant achievement: 1000 days without any lost-time accident. This reflects the outstanding commitment of all our employees.
Overall, Health and Safety Week, dedicated to educating and engaging workers, was a success. At AGF, health and safety are part of our core values and are our top priority.
Let’s all continue to commit daily to a healthy and safe work environment, for ourselves, our colleagues, and our families.
