Rendan Fabricators (a division of AGF Rebar) is proud to participate in the expansion of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, in collaboration with Nova Scotia Public Works. This hospital, the main referral and trauma center for Cape Breton Island, will benefit from a full revamping of its healthcare system.
Our Involvement in Key Phases of the Project
- Energy Center and Biomass Pit: The first phase saw the construction of the Energy Center building and the Biomass Pit, designed to provide the necessary power for the hospital.
- Cancer Treatment Center: A new, standalone three-story building equipped with state-of-the-art cancer treatment facilities was added during the middle phase of the project.
- Clinical Services Building: An eight-story building will house the new emergency care unit, prenatal care, palliative care, as well as X-ray and MRI equipment.
In total, approximately 1,930 metric tons of rebar will be required for this project.
Project Timeline
The work began in the summer of 2021 and is expected to continue until 2024, possibly extending into 2025. Currently, AGF is working on the new Clinical Services Building. Rendan Fabricators has up to 18 employees on this site. Overall, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital project involves more than 200 workers from various trades.
This project is notable in the Cape Breton construction industry for the simultaneous use of two tower cranes. A first in the region in over 30 years.
