{"id":42954,"date":"2016-07-11T14:02:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-11T18:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/en\/the-network\/uncategorized\/robb-ellis-safety-culture-workshop"},"modified":"2024-05-07T15:23:23","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T19:23:23","slug":"robb-ellis-safety-culture-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/en\/the-network\/health-and-safety\/robb-ellis-safety-culture-workshop","title":{"rendered":"Robb Ellis Safety Culture Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>On April 28, 2016, managers and key supervisors (plant and field)&nbsp;from&nbsp;all Ontario rebar divisions met in Markham to take part in a&nbsp;safety&nbsp;workshop facilitated by Rob Ellis from&nbsp;MySafeWork.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Martin Logan,&nbsp;national&nbsp;health and&nbsp;safety&nbsp;director, introduced and thanked Rob and&nbsp;took&nbsp;the&nbsp;opportunity to introduce&nbsp;Tyler&nbsp;Sherwin,&nbsp;AGF&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;Rebar&rsquo;s&nbsp;new&nbsp;safety&nbsp;officer.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rob&rsquo;s son,&nbsp;David Ellis, was killed&nbsp;in a workplace accident when he was only 18.&nbsp;He had received&nbsp;limited training and no supervision. It was his second day on the job. After David&#8217;s death, Rob Ellis started&nbsp;MySafeWork, a non-profit organization and registered charity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MySafeWork&rsquo;s&nbsp;mission is to prevent workers from getting injured and killed&nbsp;on the job.&nbsp;Since 1999,&nbsp;the organization has&nbsp;reached millions of people with a simple message: don&#8217;t work for a company that doesn&#8217;t respect you. At the same time,&nbsp;it&nbsp;inspires&nbsp;companies to achieve greatness in safety culture.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After&nbsp;his presentation,&nbsp;Rob had&nbsp;the audience&nbsp;break into groups to discuss how we would engage the people&nbsp;who&nbsp;work with us&nbsp;to strive toward&nbsp;creating a world-class safety culture.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The main&nbsp;topics&nbsp;discussed:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> Everyone can participate in meeting world-class safety standards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) <\/strong>Everyone can work together to find innovative solutions for safety strategies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) <\/strong>Everyone is responsible for transferring knowledge to the next generation of workers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a final act to&nbsp;consolidate&nbsp;our commitment to be leaders in&nbsp;taking&nbsp;the culture of safety back to our co-workers, we signed a Team Canada hockey jersey and posed for a group&nbsp;photo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Ligne_bleue_separation_version_e-1915.jpg\" style=\"height:67px; width:400px\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Taller de Robb Ellis sobre la cultura de la seguridad<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>El 28 de abril de 2016, los directores y supervisores clave (en las f&aacute;bricas y en la obras) de todas las divisiones de varillas de refuerzo de Ontario se reunieron en Markham para participar en un taller sobre la seguridad, animado por Rob Ellis de MySafeWork.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Logan, Director Nacional de Salud y Seguridad, presente en el evento, le dio las gracias a Rob Ellis y lo present&oacute;, aprovechando la ocasi&oacute;n para presentar al nuevo encargado de seguridad en AGF &ndash; Rebar, Tyler Sherwin.<\/p>\n<p>Solamente con 18 a&ntilde;os de edad, David Ellis, hijo de Rob, perdi&oacute; la vida en su lugar de trabajo, en donde progresaba sin supervisi&oacute;n despu&eacute;s de haber seguido un m&iacute;nimo de capacitaci&oacute;n. Era su segundo d&iacute;a de trabajo. Despu&eacute;s del fallecimiento de David, Rob Ellis fund&oacute; MySafeWork, una organizaci&oacute;n de beneficencia registrada, sin fines lucrativos.<\/p>\n<p>MySafeWork tiene como misi&oacute;n evitar que los trabajadores se lastimen o se maten en el lugar de trabajo. Desde 1999, la organizaci&oacute;n le ha transmitido a millones de personas un solo mensaje muy simple: &ldquo;No trabaje para una empresa que no lo respeta&rdquo;.
