Worker health and safety entails for the involvement of several levels within an organization. The process begins with a commitment by management and supervision of the work being performed. Commitment, supervision and execution require a knowledge of the job to be done, as it relates to workers’ training and experience, the combination of which determines their level of competency according to the Act Respecting Occupational Health and Safety<\/em>.<\/p>\n

When everyone involved has the required skills, it must then be ensured that the work environment is conducive to the safe execution of tasks, in compliance with specifications. That’s why a job safety analysis carried out before work begins is an essential tool for preventing unfortunate incidents.<\/p>\n

In a job safety analysis, workers identify the risks present on a daily basis by filling out a document before starting the job, with a view to protecting co-workers. From difficult site access to high wind or rain conditions, the risks are identified in this document, and the workers describe the corrective action to be taken. Once this step has been completed, the use of proper, well-maintained tools will ensure safety as well as enhancing productivity. We all want to work safely while delivering a quality product on time!<\/p>\n

All the documents needed for complete the steps described above are included in the prevention program. This program is aimed at making workers aware of the risks they face in their day-to-day. It helps them identify the risks and gives them ways to protect themselves.  It contains everything needed to ensure health and safety within the company—from senior executives and managers to all other employees—for accident prevention and management, training, maintenance, communications and getting the job done safely.<\/p>\n

The prevention program is about ways of doing things, but more than that, it reflects the company’s health and safety values. <\/p>\n

Programa de prevención: reducción de riesgos<\/strong><\/h2>\n

La salud y seguridad de los trabajadores necesita la implicación de varios niveles de una organización. El proceso empieza con el compromiso de la dirección y después con la supervisión de los trabajos y su ejecución. El compromiso, la supervisión y la ejecución requieren un conocimiento de los trabajos a realizar, en función de la formación de los trabajadores y de su experiencia, cuya combinación equivale, de acuerdo con la Ley sobre la salud y seguridad en el trabajo<\/em> (LSST), a su nivel de competencia.<\/p>\n

Cuando todos los actores poseen las competencias necesarias, es necesario asegurarse de que los lugares ofrezcan un ambiente que permita ejecutar los trabajos de una manera segura, de acuerdo con la estimación. Es por esta razón que el análisis de seguridad de las tareas (AST), efectuado antes de la ejecución de los trabajos, se convierte en una herramienta esencial que puede prevenir eventos desafortunados.<\/p>\n

En efecto, el AST ayuda a los trabajadores a identificar los riesgos presentes de manera cotidiana, al completar un documento antes de iniciar los trabajos, y así proteger a todos los integrantes. Ya sea un acceso difícil a un sitio o condiciones ventosas o lluviosas, la presencia de riesgos será identificada en ese documento y una medida correctiva será documentada para los trabajadores. Una vez terminada esta etapa, la utilización de herramientas adecuadas y bien cuidadas completará un procedimiento seguro, favoreciendo la productividad. Trabajar de manera segura y ofrecer al mismo tiempo un producto de calidad ¡es el deseo de todos!<\/p>\n

Todos los documentos requeridos para realizar las etapas mencionadas en este artículo se encuentran en el programa de prevención. Este programa sirve para sensibilizar a los trabajadores sobre los riesgos que enfrentan cotidianamente. Los ayuda a identificar los riesgos y les proporciona los medios para protegerse contra ellos. Contiene lo necesario para controlar la salud y la seguridad dentro de la empresa, en lo que concierne tanto a ejecutivos y a administradores de primer nivel como a todos los demás empleados, a la prevención de accidentes y su gestión, pasando por la capacitación, el mantenimiento, la comunicación y la ejecución segura de los trabajos.<\/p>\n
