It’s a sunny, breezy day. You spot a sign that invites you into the backyard. Hearing music, you walk up the driveway. You see someone playing guitar and singing a nice variety of both oldies and newer music. There’s a big table with hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and desserts, and everyone has a drink in hand.<\/p>\n

You’ve just arrived at the annual BBQ hosted by AGF Steel Inc.(Ottawa Division) very own general manager, Christian Witt. Every year, he invites employees and their families to his home to celebrate, take a break from the shop, construction site or the office, and get to know co-workers and their family members.<\/p>\n

Everyone gets excited in the days leading up to the BBQ. They talk about the dish they will bring or if they will be singing or playing.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere is so inviting: a beautiful backyard with plenty of tables and chairs, groups of people talking and getting to know each other, old friends and new with smiles on their faces.<\/p>\n

And then, it’s time to eat! With all the wonderful BBQ meats and the different dishes the employees have prepared, it’s hard not to go back for seconds.  Once you’ve eaten your fill, it’s time to sit back and relax, chat with those around you and learn more about each other.<\/p>\n

Then comes the eagerly anticipated surprise. When picking an activity to engage the employees, the idea was really to get them out of their comfort zone, interact with each other and add a competitive edge—because who doesn’t enjoy a little competition? They take their shoes off, sign safety waivers, of course, and climb up on podiums. When “fight” is called, they joust until one unlucky contestant falls “dead” on the inflatable bouncy cushion. Naturally, it’s a big hit with the kids but everyone has a great time watching as parents and kids, family members  and employees duke it out.  The winners walk away with bragging rights for the evening.<\/p>\n

Once everyone has recovered from the hits and falls, you make your way inside to listen to staff members sing and play. It’s great to see everyone join in, dancing and singing along to the great music. And it’s fun to see those we didn’t even know could sing wow us with their talents.<\/p>\n

Of course, all good things must come to end at some point, but the fun times will definitely be remembered by everyone!<\/p>\n

Parrillada anual de AGF Steel Inc.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Es un día soleado, con brisa. Ve un letrero que lo invita a entrar al jardín trasero. Escucha música, camina por el acceso a la casa. Ve a alguien tocando la guitarra y cantando una gran variedad de melodías del ayer y de hoy. Hay una gran mesa con hot dogs, hamburguesas, ensaladas, postres y todo el mundo tiene una bebida en la mano.<\/p>\n

Acaba de llegar a la parrillada anual que organiza el propio gerente general de AGF Steel Inc., Christian Witt. Cada año, invita a los empleados y a sus familias a su casa para celebrar, tomar una pausa del taller, sitio de construcción u oficina y conocer mejor a los compañeros de trabajo y a los miembros de sus familias.<\/p>\n

Los días antes de la parrillada todo el mundo está emocionado. Hablan del plato que llevarán o de si cantarán o tocarán algún instrumento.<\/p>\n

La atmósfera es muy acogedora: un hermoso jardín con muchas mesas y sillas, grupos de gente hablando y empezando a conocerse, viejos y nuevos amigos con sonrisas en sus rostros.<\/p>\n

Y después, ¡es hora de comer! Con todas las maravillosas carnes para la parrillada y los diferentes platos que los empleados han preparado, es difícil no servirse una segunda porción. Una vez que ha comido hasta saciarse, es hora de sentarse y relajarse, platicar con los que están alrededor y conocerse más.<\/p>\n

Después llega la esperada sorpresa. Al escoger una actividad para atraer a los empleados, la idea era realmente sacarlos de su elemento, que interactúen entre ellos mismos y añadir un toque competitivo, porque ¿a quién no le gusta un poco de competencia? Se quitan los zapatos, firman los formularios de seguridad —por supuesto— y se suben a los podios. Cuando empieza la “pelea”, compiten hasta que uno de los desafortunados concursantes cae “muerto” en el colchón inflable. Naturalmente, es un gran éxito con los niños, pero todo el mundo pasa un buen rato viendo cómo padres y niños, miembros de familias y empleados “se dan de puñetazos”. Los ganadores pueden presumir por el resto de la tarde.<\/p>\n

Una vez que todo el mundo se ha recuperado de los golpes y de las caídas, entra a escuchar a los miembros del personal cantar y tocar. Es genial ver que todos se unen, bailan y cantan con la maravillosa música. Y es divertido ver cómo aquellos que ni siquiera sabían que podían cantar nos impresionan con sus talentos.<\/p>\n

Por su puesto, todas las cosas buenas llegan a su fin en algún momento, pero ¡definitivamente todos recordarán los momentos divertidos!<\/p>\n
