On September 1, our legal department welcomed a new director: George Stougiannos. George spent more than a dozen years with a Montreal law firm and has extensive experience in business and transactional law. And since he had counselled AGF on various files for more than nine years, it was only natural for him to make the leap to the company. An attentive listener, he is available to advise you on your legal questions.<\/p>\n

This past May, armed with an LL.B. and having passed the Bar exam, I joined the AGF legal department to article under George’s supervision. While I was studying, I worked on case management at the Tax Court of Canada for two years, where I honed my organizational skills and discipline. I had already spent two years as a student in the accounting department of AGF Steel Inc., so I had no hesitations about returning to AGF for my articling.   <\/p>\n

Since our department is relatively new, it would be useful to provide a short description of the services we offer. One of our main goals is to optimize the productivity of resources by centralizing the handling of legal matters. We serve all of AGF Group’s business units, both in Canada and abroad, and can provide you with support and advice on the legal risks and issues associated with a merger, acquisition or any other type of transaction. We can also help you with writing, revising or negotiating contracts, recovering receivables, as well as liaising with external lawyers for lawsuits.<\/p>\n

Un aire de cambio en el Departamento Jurídico del Grupo AGF<\/strong><\/h2>\n

El pasado primero de septiembre, un nuevo director de asuntos jurídicos se unió al departamento jurídico. Se trata de George Stougiannos. Respaldado con más de doce años de experiencia como abogado en un despacho de Montreal, el Sr. Stougiannos posee una amplia experiencia en derecho de negocios y transaccional. Especialmente porque ha asesorado a AGF en varios casos desde hace más de nueve años, era lógico que se uniera a la empresa. Con su gran receptividad, George está a su disposición para orientarlo en sus asuntos legales.<\/p>\n

El mayo pasado, una vez que aprobé los exámenes del colegio de abogados y obtuve mi licenciatura en derecho, me uní al departamento jurídico para completar mi pasantía del colegio, la cual será supervisada por George. Durante mis estudios, trabajé en gestión de instancias durante dos años en la Corte de Impuestos de Canadá, lo que me ha permitido desarrollar mi sentido de la organización y mi rigor. Además, ya había trabajado durante dos veranos como estudiante en el departamento de contabilidad de Acier AGF inc., por lo que sin dudar regresé a AGF para hacer mi pasantía.<\/p>\n

Como es relativamente nuevo, es pertinente hacer una breve presentación de los servicios que puede ofrecer nuestro departamento jurídico. Uno de los objetivos principales es optimizar la productividad de los recursos, centralizando los desafíos jurídicos a los que se enfrenta el departamento jurídico. Servimos a todas las unidades del Grupo AGF, tanto en Canadá como internacionalmente.
