Built in 1962, it has been deteriorating rapidly and is nearing the end of its useful life, which can no longer be extended without endangering users&rsquo; safety.<\/p>\n<p>For these reasons, and given the rapid increase in traffic on the bridge, it was decided to replace the structure.<\/p>\n<p>On November 27, 2015, AGF Steel signed an agreement with Signature on the Saint Lawrence Construction to supply and install rebar: 18,800 tonnes of 500W grade, including 4,500 tonnes of stainless steel.<\/p>\n<p>The project comprises the construction of a new Champlain bridge, 3,400 metres in length, the 470-metre-long Nuns&rsquo; Island bridge, widening of Highway 15 between Atwater and the new bridge, and improvements to the ramps leading to highways 132 and 10 on the South Shore.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its elegant style and lofty lines, the new bridge differs from its predecessor in that it has a cable-stayed section in the main span that crosses the Seaway. A combination of concrete-steel structures and post-tensioning is used to achieve high performance. The consortium is confident in guaranteeing that the new structure will have a useful life of 125 years, well beyond the 60 years of the existing bridge. The new bridge will have 41 axes spaced at an average of 85 metres. The bridge deck at the central span is 44 metres above the water level, and the supporting tower is 170 metres in height.<\/p>\n<p>Since the timeline for the project is very tight (three years), many of the components are being prefabricated by various subcontractors, including AGF, and then assembled on site. This allows for quick, high-quality execution, and the work is done in a better-controlled environment.<\/p>\n<p>To meet the very high standards set forth in the contract, AGF put together a dedicated project team of four engineers, four draftsmen, and a documentation and quantity-control cell. Una de las estructuras principales de esta red, el puente Champlain, construido en 1962, ha mostrado un deterioro r&aacute;pido y llega al final de su vida &uacute;til, la cual no podr&iacute;a prolongarse m&aacute;s sin poner en riesgo la seguridad de los usuarios.<\/p>\n<p>Es por estas razones, y teniendo en cuenta el r&aacute;pido crecimiento del n&uacute;mero de veh&iacute;culos, que se planific&oacute; su reemplazo.<\/p>\n<p>El 27 de noviembre de 2015, Acier AGF firm&oacute; un acuerdo para suministrar y colocar el acero de refuerzo con <em>Signature sur le St-Laurent Construction<\/em>. EL acuerdo trata sobre 18&nbsp;800&nbsp;t de grado 500&nbsp;W de los cuales 4&nbsp;500&nbsp;t son de acero inoxidable.<\/p>\n<p>El proyecto se compone de la construcci&oacute;n de un nuevo puente Champlain de una longitud de 3400&nbsp;m, del puente de &Icirc;le des S&oelig;urs de 470&nbsp;m de largo, de la ampliaci&oacute;n de la autopista 15 entre Atwater y el nuevo puente, y de la mejora de las v&iacute;as de acceso de la autopista 132 y de la 10 sobre la ribera sur.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Adem&aacute;s de su estilo fino y elegante y de su l&iacute;nea altiva, el nuevo puente se distingue del antiguo por la presencia de una secci&oacute;n atirantada en el arco central que recubre la v&iacute;a mar&iacute;tima. Una mezcla de estructuras de acero-concreto y postensado permiten lograr un desempe&ntilde;o elevado. Optimista, el consorcio garantiza el trabajo por una duraci&oacute;n de vida &uacute;til de 125 a&ntilde;os; mucho m&aacute;s que los 60&nbsp;a&ntilde;os del puente actual. El nuevo puente tendr&aacute; 41 ejes con una separaci&oacute;n promedio de 85&nbsp;metros. A la altura del arco central, el piso se eleva a 44&nbsp;metros sobre el nivel del agua. La torre culmina a 170&nbsp;m de altura.<\/p>\n<p>Teniendo en cuenta la restricci&oacute;n de tiempo del proyecto (tres a&ntilde;os), varias partes del trabajo son prefabricadas por varios subcontratistas, entre ellos AGF, para juntarlas m&aacute;s tarde en la obra. Esta t&eacute;cnica permite una ejecuci&oacute;n r&aacute;pida y de calidad; el trabajo es realizado en un ambiente mejor controlado.<\/p>\n<p>Para cumplir con las normas elevadas establecidas en el contrato, AGF reuni&oacute; un equipo de proyecto especialmente dedicado a ello. El equipo est&aacute; compuesto de cuatro ingenieros, cuatro dise&ntilde;adores y una c&eacute;lula de documentaci&oacute;n y de seguimiento de cantidades.
