When production began in the late 1970s, the traps were square and measured 5 or 6 feet.<\/p>\n<p>Our welders were Jean-Pierre LeBouthillier, who is still with us, and Andr&eacute; Ferron (now retired).<\/p>\n<p>The traps are manufactured from smooth steel at our plant, and the netting is then installed by the fisherman or at another plant.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, we have been making between 1,600 and 2,000 traps annually.<\/p>\n<p>Since the early 2000s, the shape of the traps has changed from square to round. The sizes vary depending on the fishermen&rsquo;s needs, ranging from 36 inches to 40 inches, 6 feet, 6&frac12; feet and 7 feet.<\/p>\n<p>Our peak production runs from early January to the end of March and then again from late August to mid-November. This schedule benefits us since we are not that busy with rebar production at these times of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The snow crab fishery begins as the ice melts in early April and ends when each fisherman has reached his quota (by mid-June).<\/p>\n<p>We hope to see you during crab fishing season!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Ligne_bleue_separation_version_e-1972.jpg\" style=\"height:67px; width:400px\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Nasas para cangrejos de nieve<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Olympic Metals Lt&eacute;e fue la primera empresa que empez&oacute; a producir nasas para cangrejos en las Mar&iacute;timas. Todo comenz&oacute; a finales de la d&eacute;cada de los setenta. Las primeras nasas eran cuadrados de 5-6&nbsp;pies.<\/p>\n<p>Nuestro soldador era, y lo es todav&iacute;a, Jean-Pierre LeBouthillier acompa&ntilde;ado de Andr&eacute; Ferron (ya jubilado).<\/p>\n<p>Las nasas son fabricadas con el acero liso de nuestra f&aacute;brica y la instalaci&oacute;n de la red la hace despu&eacute;s el pescador o se realiza en nuestra f&aacute;brica.<\/p>\n<p>En los &uacute;ltimos a&ntilde;os, fabricamos entre 1600 y 2000 nasas por a&ntilde;o.<\/p>\n<p>Las nasas cambiaron de forma a principios de los a&ntilde;os 2000 para convertirse en nasas redondas. Los tama&ntilde;os var&iacute;an seg&uacute;n el pescador; van de 36 pulgadas a 7 pies, 40 pulgadas, 6 pies y 6 pies-6 pulgadas.<\/p>\n<p>Nuestra gran producci&oacute;n se realiza&nbsp;de principios de enero a finales de marzo y recomienza hacia finales de agosto, hasta mediados de noviembre. Esta situaci&oacute;n nos favorece porque nuestra producci&oacute;n de acero de refuerzo no es muy elevada durante este periodo del a&ntilde;o.<\/p>\n<p>La pesca del cangrejo de nieve empieza con el deshielo de los glaciares, es decir desde el inicio de abril y se termina de acuerdo con la cuota de cada pescador (a mediados de junio).<\/p>\n<p>&iexcl;Esperamos verlo durante la temporada de pesca del cangrejo!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Olympic Metals Ltd. was the first company to manufacture crab traps in the Maritimes.
