The bridge, a key link in Quebec&rsquo;s highway network, was built in 1962 and has reached the end of its useful life. It needs to be replaced because of the rapid growth in the number of vehicles on the roads. This megaproject will be more than 200 metres in height&mdash;taller than the Olympic Stadium&mdash;and represents 18,800 tonnes of&nbsp;500W grade steel, including 4,500 tonnes of stainless steel. Our workers are currently assembling and building the following components:<\/p>\n<p>The&thinsp;crossbeam&thinsp;and the bowtie comprise the support structure, which will bear the load of vehicles and transmit it to the bridge supports, which are made using 230 tonnes of stainless steel and 59 tonnes of black steel. Using stainless steel here is very important to prevent any corrosion in a section that will be subject to heavy use over the years.<\/p>\n<p>The next step is the composition of the segments of the main piers. These are the two parts overhanging the crossbeam&nbsp;that form the continuity of the supporting piers. They are joined by a &ldquo;bowtie&rdquo; that consists of 58 tonnes of black steel. There are 24 prefabricated concrete segments (12 on each side) each comprising 4.5 tonnes of steel. Like the bowtie, they are assembled and cemented on the ground and then mounted on the structure. Among the constraints associated with the project is the lack of space for placing the steel caissons of the crossbeam. This has made it difficult for our steelworkers, who have had to use about 11,000 sleeves to assemble the structure.<\/p>\n<p>Once the many segments and the bowties have been installed, the final step is the erection of the main pylons. The towerhead, the bridge&rsquo;s high point, serves to anchor the stay cables. It alone is more than 100 metres high, nearly half the height of the pylons. They total about 500 tonnes of black steel and make up 16 six-metre sections weighing between 20 and 25&nbsp;tonnes. To install all of these segments one after another, our workers will have to install the rebar directly on site. The main vertical reinforcements are 45M and 35M in diameter, threaded&nbsp;with more than 3,300 45M and 4,800 35M sleeves.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the project, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newchamplain.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.newchamplain.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Ligne_bleue_separation_version_e-1994.jpg\" style=\"height:67px; width:400px\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Seguimiento sobre el gran proyecto del nuevo Puente Champlain<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Para darle seguimiento al art&iacute;culo publicado el diciembre pasado, a continuaci&oacute;n le presentamos un informe sobre los avances del proyecto del Puente Champlain. Le recordamos que el puente Champlain, una estructura importante de la red quebequense y constuido en 1962, llega ya al final de su longevidad y debe ser restablecido debido al r&aacute;pido crecimiento del n&uacute;mero de veh&iacute;culos sobre las rutas. Este proyecto de envergadura medir&aacute; alrededor de 200 metros, m&aacute;s elevado que el estadio ol&iacute;mpico y comprender&aacute; 18&nbsp;800 toneladas de acero de grado 500W, de los cuales 4500 toneladas ser&aacute;n en acero inoxidable. Actualmente nuestros trabajadores se encuentran en el proceso de ensamblado y en la construcci&oacute;n de las partes siguientes:<\/p>\n<p>La viga transversal y la viga transversal superior que componen la estructura de carga que soporta las cargas del tr&aacute;fico vial y las transmite a los apoyos del puente. Estos &uacute;ltimos constituyen 230 de toneladas de acero inoxidable y 59 toneladas de acero negro. La utilizaci&oacute;n de acero inoxidable es muy importante en esta secci&oacute;n para evitar toda la corrosi&oacute;n sobre una parte que ser&aacute; realmente puesta a prueba con el paso de los a&ntilde;os.<\/p>\n<p>Despu&eacute;s sigue la composici&oacute;n de los segmentos de los pilares principales. Son las dos partes que desaploman la viga transversal que forman la continuidad de los pilares de apoyo. Est&aacute;n unidos por la viga transversal superior que pesa ella sola 58 toneladas de acero negro. Los segmentos son de concreto prefabricado y totalizan 24 segmentos (12 de cada lado) que pesan cada uno 4.5 toneladas de acero. Al igual que la viga transversal superior, se ensamblan y se consolidan en el suelo y despu&eacute;s se montan sobre la estructura. Entre las restricciones relacionadas con el proyecto, la falta de espacio para pasar el acero en los cajones de acero de la viga tansversal han dificultado el trabajo de nuestros trabajadores encargados de la elaboraci&oacute;n de armaduras, quienes necesitaron utilizar aproximadamente 11&nbsp;000 manguitos de acero para montar la estructura.<\/p>\n<p>Despu&eacute;s de haber instalado los numerosos segmentos y la viga transversal superior, la &uacute;ltima etapa era erigir los pilares principales. La parte culminante del puente es utilizada para fijar los tirantes. Esta parte mida m&aacute;s de 100&nbsp;m, lo que representa m&aacute;s de la mitad de la altitud de los pilares. Totalizan aproximadamente 500&nbsp;toneladas de acero negro y est&aacute;n constituidos de 16 secciones de 6 metros que pesan entre 20 y 25&nbsp;toneladas. Para instalar todos estos segmentos, todos en fila, nuestros trabajadores tuvieron que instalar el refuerzo directamente en el lugar.
