Last September, I attended the 30th World Safety Organization symposium in Las Vegas. <\/p>\n

I had been invited as a speaker to talk about the customer approach in health and safety. My presentation was based on a training session entitled “the customer approach,” which I give to all those who are working in health and safety within AGF Group and its divisions. The training was also given to project coordinators and worksite supervisors. <\/p>\n

During this event, I had the opportunity to chat with people from around the world, on the topic of health and safety: from the safety manager of the Fort Lauderdale airport to a delegate from Nigeria, participants from the Philippines, Qatar, New Mexico, Virginia, Malaysia, and many others. The international delegation that attended the symposium is united by a common interest in health and safety. <\/p>\n

I spoke with them for more than an hour and drove home the message that it is important for OHC coordinators to bring people to embrace the concept of working safely. It’s a question of commitment and influence. We are the “salespeople” for encouraging our coworkers to adopt safe behaviours, and we’re responsible for convincing them and encouraging them to adopt this vision.  <\/p>\n

I also gave a second presentation on the topic of “pre-qualifications for health and safety, how to prepare and success.” I outlined the requirements for a preventive health and safety program. I cited the example of our business partnership with the Shawinigan company Cognibox, which provides support and guidance for customers and their subcontractors. They do a fantastic job and take an approach based on improving their health and safety. They conduct health and safety pre-qualifications for their customers, in addition to providing training and risk analysis. <\/p>\n

The conclusion of my presentations is that health and safety is a social concept. It is based on individual behaviours and their ability to integrate into the company’s various operations. <\/p>\n

The point is to prompt people to question their own values and lifestyle habits, since our shared goal is to be safe and effective on the job. <\/p>\n

Conferencia en Las Vegas<\/h2>\n

El 25 de octubre pasado, asistí a la 30ª conferencia de la Organización Mundial de la Salud y Seguridad (World Safety Organisation) en Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Para la ocasión, fui invitado como conferencista para hablar de la perspectiva del cliente en salud y seguridad. Esta presentación de hecho viene de una capacitación que se llama “la perspectiva del cliente” y que le imparto a toda la gente que trabaja en salud y seguridad en el Grupo AGF y sus sucursales. Esta capacitación también ha sido impartida a los encargados de proyecto y supervisores de obras.<\/p>\n

Durante este evento, tuve la ocasión de frecuentar gente de todo el mundo cuyo tema principal era la salud y seguridad: desde el responsable del aeropuerto de Fort Lauderdale y un representante de Nigeria, hasta la gente de Filipinas, de Qatar, de Nuevo México, Virginia, Malasia y muchos lugares más. Una delegación internacional se presentó a esta conferencia. Y todos teníamos un punto en común: la pasión por la salud y seguridad.<\/p>\n

Me entretuve con ellos durante más de una hora y reiteré el mensaje de la importancia de hacer que la gente, como responsable de SST, adopte el concepto de trabajar de manera segura. Es una cuestión de entrega y de influencia. Somos los “vendedores” de un tipo de comportamiento que nuestros colegas deben adoptar y tenemos la responsabilidad de convencerlos y de hacer que adopten esta visión.<\/p>\n

También di una segunda conferencia cuyo tema era “las pre-certificaciones en salud y seguridad, cómo prepararse y cómo tener éxito”. Presenté los requisitos de un programa de prevención de salud y seguridad. Di el ejemplo de nuestra sociedad de negocios con la firma Cognibox de Shawinigan que apoya y acompaña a los donantes de obras y sus subcontratistas. Hacen un trabajo fantástico y tienen un método basado en cómo mejorar la salud y seguridad en la empresa del cliente. Esta firma realiza pre-certificaciones de salud y seguridad para sus clientes además del componente de capacitación y análisis de riesgos.<\/p>\n

La conclusión de mis presentaciones es que la salud y seguridad es un concepto social. Es un concepto basado en el comportamiento de cada uno y en su capacidad de integrarse a las diferentes operaciones de la empresa.<\/p>\n

El punto es hacer que la gente se cuestione sobre sus propios valores y hábitos de vida ya que el objetivo de todos es mantenerse seguros y ser eficaces en el trabajo. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
