5 years ago I started the Haven youth care centre which is an outreach of Restoring Hope Ministries. The care centre started as an emergency shelter for homeless youth and young adults and we were only able to be open one night a week. However after starting we quickly realized that the needs of the youth were much greater than we had anticipated. Soon we added a drop in service which included dinner, snacks, and other supplies like clothing and hygiene products. But even more importantly it gave us the opportunity to build friendships with the youth acceding the services. When we first started we were only available for young men. But after a few months we expanded the service to include young women as well. There has been a lot of growth over these past few years. We are now open 5 nights a week from 9pm until 9am the next day.<\/p>\n

A few years ago, when the AGF Group Foundation was started I was approached by Terri Anne about how the team could help out the shelter. From that day AGF Ottawa has consistently provided clothing, food, hygiene products, winter gear, and financial support. It has been amazing to see how dedicated everyone here has been to blessing the youth who frequent the care centre. At our recent Christmas party the staff organized a 50\/50 raffle which helped raise a significant amount of money for the centre. That money is going to be put towards the creation of our new addictions counseling program which we are calling C.O.R.E. (Combining our resources effectively. We already have many youth who are signing up for this new program as they are eager to receive help overcoming their drug and alcohol addictions.<\/p>\n

In short AGF foundation and AFG Ottawa have been an amazing example of how the community can come together to make a big difference in the lives of people who need help. I love being a part of such a compassionate and hard working group of people.<\/p>\n

En Ottawa, nos involucramos con las personas sin hogar<\/h2>\n

Hace cinco años, puse en marcha el centro de ayuda para la juventud Haven, una iniciativa de ayuda social de Restoring Hope Ministries[1]. Al principio, el centro era un refugio de urgencia para los jóvenes y adultos jóvenes sin hogar y no podíamos abrir más que una noche por semana. Sin embargo, constatamos rápidamente que las necesidades de los jóvenes iban más allá de lo que habíamos imaginado. Así es que aumentamos servicios de acogida que incluían cenas y colaciones y algunos artículos útiles como ropa y artículos de higiene personal. Pero ante todo, el proyecto nos permitió crear lazos de amistad con los jóvenes que frecuentan el centro. Cuando comenzamos, el centro recibía solamente hombres jóvenes, pero después de varios meses, pudimos ofrecer los servicios también a las jovencitas. El centro ha crecido mucho desde hace  algunos años. Ahora abrimos cinco noches por semana, de 9:00 p. m. a 9:00 a. m.<\/p>\n

Hace algunos años, cuando se creó la Fundación Grupo AGF, Terri Anne se me acercó para saber cómo podría el equipo ayudar al refugio. Desde entonces, AGF Ottawa contribuye regularmente con donativos de ropa, comida, productos de higiene personal, ropa de invierno y apoyo financiero. Es maravilloso ver hasta qué punto todo el mundo se implica para ayudar a los jóvenes que recurren al centro. Durante nuestra última fiesta de Navidad, el personal organizó un sorteo 50\/50 que permitió recaudar una suma importante para el centro. El monto recaudado servirá para poner en marcha nuestro nuevo programa de orientación para la dependencia llamado C.O.R.E. (“Combinar nuestros recursos de manera eficaz”, por sus siglas en inglés). Ya varios jóvenes se han inscrito al nuevo programa, ya que están ansiosos por recibir ayuda para superar su dependencia a las drogas y al alcohol.<\/p>\n

En pocas palabras, la Fundación Grupo AGF y AGF Ottawa han demostrado hasta qué punto el esfuerzo comunitario puede hacer una diferencia en la vida de las personas que necesitan ayuda. Me alegra formar parte de un grupo de gente tan bondadosa y entregada.<\/p>\n
