{"id":44888,"date":"2018-05-09T09:15:00","date_gmt":"2018-05-09T13:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/en\/the-network\/uncategorized\/agf-and-the-snow-crabs"},"modified":"2024-05-07T15:31:26","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T19:31:26","slug":"agf-and-the-snow-crabs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/en\/the-network\/general-interest\/agf-and-the-snow-crabs","title":{"rendered":"AGF and the snow crabs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Fans of fine dining will be delighted to learn that the snow crab season recently got under way in the Atlantic (April 29).<\/p>\n<p>But what&rsquo;s that got to do with AGF Group, you ask?<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s simple: AGF Olympic in Caraquet NB has been making steel crab traps since 1976!<\/p>\n<h3>Evolving models<\/h3>\n<p>The previous models were 5&rsquo;x5&rsquo;x2&rsquo; squares with double entry.<\/p>\n<p>With improved technology on board the boats, they have been expanded to 6&rsquo;x6&rsquo;x2&rsquo; and 7&rsquo;x7&rsquo;x2&rsquo;.<\/p>\n<p>Following an accident at sea involving square traps, they were replaced by conical traps with a single entrance, which can be stacked. This eliminates the need to make several trips to pick up all the traps.<\/p>\n<p>The traps are made using 5\/8&rdquo;, &frac34;&rdquo;, 1&rdquo;or 1&frac14;&rdquo; smooth&nbsp;rebar.<\/p>\n<p>Their diameter varies from 5&rsquo; 6&rdquo;, 6&rsquo;, 6&rsquo; 6&rdquo; to 7&rsquo;. The height and angle of the plastic cone may also differ from one model to the next.<\/p>\n<p>We also manufacture smaller 40&rdquo; traps used for rock crab.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_3850-4.jpg\" style=\"height:300px; width:450px\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>Each crab fisherman has a favourite model of trap. The only restriction is the maximum volume authorized by Fisheries and Oceans. Each license holder is entitled to use between 100 and 175 crab traps depending on their quota.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Ligne_bleue_separation_version_e-2104.jpg\" style=\"height:67px; width:400px\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2>&iexcl;No hay cangrejos sin AGF!<\/h2>\n<p>Los gastr&oacute;nomos se alegrar&aacute;n de saber que acaba de iniciar en el Atl&aacute;ntico la temporada del cangrejo de las nieves (29 de abril).<\/p>\n<p>Tal vez se pregunte qu&eacute; tiene que ver con Grupo AGF. Es muy f&aacute;cil: AGF Olympic, en Caraquet, Nuevo Brunswick, fabrica las jaulas de acero para cangrejos &iexcl;desde 1976!<\/p>\n<h3>Evoluci&oacute;n de los modelos<\/h3>\n<p>Los antiguos modelos eran cuadrados y med&iacute;an 5&#8217;x5&#8217;x2&#8242;, con entrada doble. Con mejores tecnolog&iacute;as en los barcos, se agrandaron a 6&#8217;x6&#8217;x2&#8242; y a 7&#8217;x7&#8217;x2&#8242;.<\/p>\n<p>Despu&eacute;s de un accidente en el mar con las jaulas cuadradas, se reemplazaron con jaulas c&oacute;nicas apilables. Ya no hay necesidad de hacer varios viajes para llevar todas las jaulas al mar.<\/p>\n<p>Las jaulas son fabricadas con barras de acero liso de 5\/8&#8221;, 3\/4&#8221;, 1&#8221; o 1 1\/4&#8221; de di&aacute;metro. Tienen un di&aacute;metro que var&iacute;a entre 5&#8242;-6&#8221;, 6&#8242;, 6&#8242;-6&#8221; o 7&#8242;. La altura, la inclinaci&oacute;n y el cono de pl&aacute;stico pueden tambi&eacute;n ser diferentes de un modelo a otro. Tambi&eacute;n fabricamos jaulas peque&ntilde;as de 40&#8221; para la pesca del cangrejo de las rocas.<\/p>\n<p>Cada pescador tiene su modelo de jaula preferido. La &uacute;nica restricci&oacute;n es un volumen m&aacute;ximo autorizado por el Ministerio de Pescas y Oc&eacute;anos de Canad&aacute;.
