On July 5, Mario Spadafora and his team attended a health and safety meeting as part of a provincial initiative with the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association (NLCSA). Newfoundland companies were invited to sign up for the Safety Stand-down, and the Association offered to send an employee to take part in the meeting. It was hosted by Mario and the joint health and safety committee, whose members are Natasha Pendergast, Gary Fitzgerald, Carolyn Strugnell and Matthew Cahill.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the members explained their committee’s role and its health and safety actions. They also discussed the importance of implementing control mechanisms to make work activities safer, including personal protection equipment and reporting of hazardous conditions or actions.<\/p>\n

In recognition of their remarkable participation, the employees received a certificate signed by the NLCSA’s CEO. The Association also offered free online health and safety training to all the employees who took part.<\/p>\n

This is one of many health and safety initiatives, which include a morning safety moment every day, in addition to the joint committee’s actions. As well, at their request, I am holding a safety moment during the meeting with our customer for the West White Rose site. This heightened awareness has had a positive effect on the organization and influences good health and safety performance. Indeed, the Newfoundland team has not had a single lost-time accident in one year of operation.<\/p>\n

Sensibilización de seguridad<\/h2>\n

El pasado 5 de julio, Mario Spadafora y su equipo participaron en una reunión de salud y seguridad en el marco de una iniciativa provincial con la Asociación de Seguridad en la Construcción de Terranova y Labrador (NLCSA, por sus siglas en inglés). En efecto, las empresas de Terranova y Labrador fueron invitadas a participar en el evento de sensibilización de seguridad “Safety Stand-down” y la Asociación ofreció enviar a un empleado para participar en la reunión, la cual fue dirigida en conjunto con Mario Spadafora y el comité mixto de salud y seguridad compuesto por Natasha Pendergast, Gary Fitzgerald, Carolyn Strugnell y Matthew Cahill.<\/p>\n

Durante la reunión, los miembros del comité mixto explicaron la función del comité y sus acciones de salud y seguridad y discutieron la importancia de implementar mecanismos de control para hacer que las actividades profesionales sean más seguras, entre ellas el equipo de protección individual y la señalización de condiciones o actos peligrosos.<\/p>\n

La directora general de la Asociación de Seguridad en la Construcción les entregó a los empleados un certificado de reconocimiento por su extraordinaria participación, firmado por ella. Asimismo, la Asociación ofreció una formación en línea gratuita sobre la salud y seguridad a todos los empleados que participaron.<\/p>\n

Este gesto se añade a varias iniciativas de salud y seguridad, entre ellos un momento de seguridad que se hace todas las mañanas, además de las actividades del comité mixto. Asimismo, a solicitud de nuestro cliente de la obra West White Rose, me encargo de realizar un momento de seguridad durante nuestra reunión. Esta sensibilización produce un efecto positivo en la organización y tiene una influencia en el buen desempeño de salud y seguridad. Por cierto, el equipo de Terranova y Labrador no ha tenido un accidente con pérdida de tiempo en un año de operaciones.<\/p>\n
