In honour of National Engineering Month, AGF Group would like to showcase its engineers for the remarkable work they do.<\/p>\n

Here are portraits of four of our engineers. They come from different backgrounds but they are all driven by the same passion: their profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nadia graduated from the University of Havana in civil and structural engineering in 1994 and joined AGF Rebar in 2008 as an estimator.<\/p>\n

Since 2019, she has been Detailing Manager for the Kitchener division. Her role is to manage resources to ensure that all shop drawings are submitted with the quality and timeliness required to meet project requirements.Reason for becoming an engineer:“<\/p>\n

\n“The desire to take a rational yet creative approach to tackling challenges. What I also find interesting in the construction field is seeing things come to fruition—from the drawing board to the final completion of each project.”<\/p>\n

Being an engineer at AGF…<\/strong>
\n“As a structural engineer, working at AGF gives me the opportunity to apply my knowledge and suggest possible solutions for the day-to-day challenges in our operations.”<\/p>\n

As a woman, what do you think you bring to the construction trade?​<\/strong>

Katherina graduated in civil engineering from the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) in 2003 and joined the AGF Group in 2009 after completing her PhD at Université Laval.<\/p>\n

Today, she is director of special projects for the AGF Group and supports projects involving aSa, innovation, large projects and other special assignments.<\/p>\n

Reason for becoming an engineer:<\/strong>
\n “Ever since I was 10 or 12, I’ve been fascinated by structures. I used to play a lot with LEGO and had great fun building skyscrapers. My mother was an architectural technician, so I grew up in a family environment that helped develop my interest in construction. It was obvious to me that I would go on to work in civil engineering.”<\/p>\n

\n“What I like about my role at AGF is that my day-to-day is full of challenges, and I have to come up with solutions to a variety of issues. I really appreciate the fact that AGF Group values engineering and is involved in schools such as Polytechnique.”<\/p>\n

As a woman, what do you think you bring to the construction trade?<\/strong>
\n“Before I started my civil engineering studies, my mother said to me: you’re going into a male field but don’t try to be a man yourself and everything will be fine. This has been my motto for 20 years and by being myself, I try to encourage a stimulating, healthy and caring work environment.”

Claudio graduated in mechanical engineering from Université Laval in 2003 and joined Acier AGF as an estimator after completing his degree.<\/p>\n

Today, as a project manager, he is responsible for ensuring that the projects he is assigned run smoothly (meeting deadlines, compliance of steel delivered to the site, etc.). As the exclusive customer contact, he serves as the link between the customer and the detailers.<\/p>\n

Reason for becoming an engineer:<\/strong>
\n“I originally wanted to be a doctor, but my studies in microbiology didn’t live up to my expectations. I then joined my father, who worked in a plastics plant, and that’s what sparked my interest in industrial engineering. But getting into the construction world was more a matter of circumstance: after I met Gabriel Bonin, former VP, International and Major Projects, I joined Acier AGF once I finished university.”<\/p>\n

\n“What I like about my role at AGF is the diversity of the projects I work on. Each new project brings a different challenge with unforeseen difficulties: that’s what makes my job stimulating.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Babak graduated from an Iranian university in structural and civil engineering in 1998. He is also a structural engineering graduate of the University of Toronto in 2015. 
\nHe joined AGF Rebar in 2018.<\/p>\n

Today, as an estimator, he works upstream at the calls-for-tenders stage: he interprets the engineers’ plans in order to estimate the tonnage of steel needed on the construction site and evaluates its financial cost.<\/p>\n

Reason for becoming an engineer:<\/strong>
\n “The desire to meet challenges, solve problems and resolve difficult situations, work with talented teams and serve the public. I also wanted to be involved in both engineering and construction: applying theory to the real world!;<\/p>\n

\n“I like the fact that of all types of structure\/construction (e.g. wood, masonry), reinforced concrete is, in my opinion, the most difficult, most technical and most complicated.”<\/p>\n

Diplomada de la Universidad de La Havana en ingeniería civil y en ingeniería de estructuras en 1994, Nadia se integró a AGF Rebar en 2008 como estimadora.<\/p>\n

Desde el 2019 es responsable del detallado para la división de Kitchener. Su papel es administrar los recursos para asegurarse de que todos los planos del taller sean entregados con calidad y en los plazos requeridos para responder a las exigencias del proyecto.<\/p>\n

¿Qué la impulsó a convertirse en ingeniera?<\/strong>
\n“El deseo de poder superar los desafíos con un método racional y creativo a la vez. Lo que además me parece interesante en el área de la construcción es ver las cosas realizarse: desde las mesas de dibujo hasta la conclusión de cada proyecto.”<\/p>\n

Ser ingeniera en AGF…<\/strong>
\n“Como ingeniera en estructura, al trabajar en AGF tengo la oportunidad de poner en práctica mis conocimientos y de sugerir soluciones para superar los desafíos cotidianos relacionados a nuestras operaciones.”<\/p>\n

¿Qué siente que aporta al sector de la construcción como mujer?<\/strong>

Diplomada de la Universidad de Karlsruhe (Alemania) en ingeniería civil en el 2003, Katherine se integra a Grupo AGF en el 2009 al concluir su doctorado en la Universidad de Laval.
\nHoy en día Directora, Proyectos Especiales, Grupo AGF, proporciona su apoyo en los proyectos de aSa, de innovación, en los proyectos de gran envergadura y en todos los demás proyectos especiales.<\/p>\n

¿Qué la impulsó a convertirse en ingeniera?<\/strong>
\n“Desde mi infancia, cuando tenía 10-12 años, me fascinaban la estructuras. Jugaba muchísimo con los Lego y me divertía construyendo rascacielos. Mi madre era técnica en arquitectura. Evolucioné en un ambiente familiar que contribuyó a desarrollar mi gusto por la construcción. Fue para mí evidente que evolucionaría en la ingeniería civil.”<\/p>\n

Ser ingeniera en AGF…<\/strong>
\n“Lo que me gusta de mi papel en AGF es que mi vida cotidiana tiene muchos desafíos y que debo encontrar soluciones a problemas variados. Aprecio verdaderamente que Grupo AGF valore la ingeniería y se implique en ciertas escuelas como el politécnico.”<\/p>\n

¿Qué siente que aporta al sector de la construcción como mujer?<\/strong>
\n“Antes de iniciar mis estudios en ingeniería civil, mi madre me dijo: estás entrando en un área masculina, pero si no intentas ser un hombre tú misma, todo va a salir bien. Es mi regla desde hace veinte años e intento, siendo yo misma, promover un medio de trabajo estimulante, sano y humano.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diplomado en ingeniería mecánica de la Universidad de Laval en el 2003, Claudio se integró a Acier AGF en cuanto terminó sus estudios como estimador.
\nHoy en día es encargado de proyecto y es responsable del buen desarrollo de los proyectos que se le han confiado (respeto de fechas de entrega, conformidad de las entregas de acero en la obra…). Es el interlocutor privilegiado de los clientes y es el lazo entre ellos y los proyectistas.<\/p>\n

¿Qué lo impulsó a convertirse en ingeniero?<\/strong>
\n“En un principio quería ser médico pero mis estudios en microbiología no estaban a la altura de mis esperanzas. Es así que me uní a mi padre quien trabajaba en una fábrica de plástico y fue él quien me hizo que me gustara la ingeniería industrial. Sin embargo, mis inicios en el universo de la construcción fueron más una historia de circunstancias: fue después de reunirme con Gabriel Bonin, antiguo Vicepresidente, Internacional y Proyectos de gran envergadura, que me integré a Acier AGF al final de mi carrera universitaria.”<\/p>\n

Ser ingeniero en AGF…<\/strong>
\n“Lo que me gusta de mi papel en AGF es la diversidad de proyectos en los que trabajo. Cada proyecto nuevo es un desafío diferente, las dificultades son imprevisibles, lo que hace que mi trabajo sea estimulante.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diplomado de una universidad iraní en ingeniería de estructuras e ingeniería civil en 1998, Babak también se diplomó en ingeniería de estructuras en Toronto en el 2015. Se integra a AGF Rebar en el 2018.
\nHoy es un estimador, interviene tempranamente en proyectos, en el momento de las licitaciones: interpreta los planes de los ingenieros para evaluar el tonelaje de acero necesario para la realización de la obra y así evaluar el costo financiero.<\/p>\n

¿Qué lo impulsó a convertirse en ingeniero?<\/strong>
\n“El deseo de superar desafíos, de resolver problemas y situaciones difíciles, de trabajar con equipos talentosos y de servir al público. También deseaba implicarme en la ingeniería y en la construcción: utilizar la teoría para aplicarla al mundo real.”<\/p>\n

Ser ingeniero en AGF…<\/strong>
\n“Me gusta el hecho de que de todas las áreas de la estructura\/construcción (por ejemplo, la madera, albañilería…) el hormigón armado es, a mi parecer, el más difícil, el más técnico y el más complicado. ”
