Since I took up my new position in quality assurance at the Quebec City plant, employees have been asking me questions about various technical aspects specific to their work, such as: “Hey, Joey, what are couples, and what are stud rails?” Or “Where do those big 30M rods go?<\/em>” Or “Why do you call these stirrups T1s?<\/em>”<\/p>\n

After consulting with employees, I realized there was a critical need for information specific to them. 
\nThat’s when we decided to display a number of tools in the employee lunch room: 
\n– A table of installation accessories with descriptions and a small compartment for various information booklets  (The idea came to me when I saw the one in the Trois-Rivières office.);  
\n– A television monitor with informative content that answers many questions. It features pictures of various construction sites, success stories of the month, technical riddles, information on health and safety at the plant, and much more. The content changes every week;
\n– A bulletin board where a variety of information is displayed.<\/p>\n

The fact that employees have ongoing exposure to information gives them an opportunity to gain a better understanding of their daily tasks, acquire some technical knowledge and therefore see their work as important and rewarding.<\/p>\n

Desde que asumí mis nuevas funciones en garantía de calidad en la fábrica de Quebec, algunos empleados me han realizado preguntas sobre diferentes aspectos técnicos específicos a su trabajo; por ejemplo: “Joey, ¿qué son los manguitos?, ¿qué son los studrails (pernos sobre rieles)?, ¿en dónde van estas grandes varillas de 30 m?, ¿porqué les llamas a estos estribos T1?”<\/p>\n

Después de haber consultado con los empleados, identifiqué que había una necesidad fundamental de información específica dirigida a ellos. Fue entonces que procedimos a la instalación de varias herramientas en el comedor de los empleados de la planta: 
\n– un tablero con los accesorios de instalación y su descripción, dotado de un pequeño compartimento con varias libretas de información;
\n– una televisión con contenido informativo que responde a un gran número de preguntas: contiene imágenes de diversas obras, las buenas acciones del mes, adivinanzas técnicas, información sobre la salud y seguridad de la fábrica y mucho más. El contenido evoluciona cada semana;
\n– un tablero de corcho en el que se anuncia información diversa.<\/p>\n

El hecho de que los empleados estén expuestos a información continuamente hace que tengan la oportunidad de tener una mejor comprensión de sus gestos cotidianos, de adquirir un cierto conocimiento técnico y de darse cuenta de que su trabajo es importante y gratificante.
