The construction sector has been experiencing a labour shortage for several months to meet our needs in our factories and sites. So, we need to put a lot of effort into our recruitment.<\/p>\n

Michael Kobryn, Operations Manager London and Ontario Reinforcement Placing, has developed a partnership with Immploy, a local employment organization specializing in the recruitment of newcomers to Canada. Immploy is affiliated with the Ontario government which allows AGF Rebar London to receive training cost reimbursement. Thanks to Immploy, two information sessions were organized during which we met potential workers with immigrant backgrounds.<\/p>\n

Through Immploy, AGF Rebar London was able to hire its first employees from Syria, who joined the London team last September. This past January, 6 additional employees from differents countries were hired. For a number of them, they have been in Canada for less than a year and speak very little English. They therefore attend evening classes after work to learn how to speak, read and write in English.<\/p>\n

After recruitment, comes the onboarding and integration stage. In order to facilitate the arrival of the 7 new employees, an interpreter was present for their first day at AGF. The interpreter assisted in translating the requirements of the job, but also more importantly all our Health and Safety policies, processes and protocols.<\/p>\n

In addition, all Supervisors have been provided with a translation application on their phones, which allows them to communicate by voice or text.<\/p>\n

We are pleased to report that the employees of London have been very welcoming and caring towards our new employees by respecting their cultural diversity and by overcoming all the challenges related to the language barrier.<\/p>\n

Diversificación de nuestras estrategias de contratación<\/h3>\n

Desde hace varios meses, el sector de la construcción experimenta una escasez de mano de obra. Para responder a nuestras necesidades en las fábricas y en las obras debemos desarrollar varios esfuerzos en la contratación.<\/p>\n

Michael Kobryn, Director de Operaciones en London, Ontario, desarrolló una sociedad con Immploy<\/a>, una agencia local de empleos especializada en la contratación de recién llegados a Canadá. Immploy está afiliada al gobierno de Ontario, lo cual le permite a AGF Rebar London obtener un reembolso por los gastos de formación.<\/p>\n

Se organizaron dos sesiones de información durante las cuales nos reunimos con dos potenciales trabajadores inmigrantes. Gracias a la agencia, AGF Rebar London pudo contratar a su primer empleado sirio, quien se unió al equipo en septiembre. En enero, se contrataron seis empleados más (cuatro árabes y dos hispanos). Varios de ellos están en Canadá desde hace menos de un año y hablan muy poco inglés. Siguen cursos en la tarde después del trabajo para aprender a hablar, a leer y a escribir en inglés.<\/p>\n

Después de la contratación viene la etapa de integración. Para facilitar la llegada de los siete nuevos colaboradores, durante su primer día en AGF contaron con la presencia de un intérprete, quien ayudó traduciendo las exigencias del puesto y, lo que es más importante, todas nuestras políticas, procedimientos y protocolos en lo tocante a la salud y seguridad.<\/p>\n

Asimismo, todos los supervisores cuentan con una aplicación de traducción en su teléfono para poder comunicarse por voz o texto.<\/p>\n
