The new year is off to a great start for the Calgary plant, which has gone more than 400 days without logging a single “recordable injury”!<\/p>\n

Moving heavy loads, working with sharp objects and handling steel with industrial machinery: the field of rebar is rewarding and demanding, but it also entails risks. Through collective efforts, prevention and sound risk management, everyone can work in a safer environment that values each person’s contribution. The team works very hard in turning the safety culture around while focusing on near misses, housekeeping, maintenance, competencies & training. This group leads a very in depth morning meeting which includes stretches to start off their work day. The structure of these meetings are fantastic. The engagement, feedback, and communication is outstanding to say the least.<\/p>\n

Plants like AGF Rebar in Calgary serve as a great example for all of our divisions. You might recall that in November 2019, the team obtained COR (Certificate of Recognition) certification<\/a>, which ensures very good risk management within the plant and makes it possible to minimize the incidence of worker injuries and illnesses, among other things.<\/p>\n

We’re proud to see that our health and safety team across Canada has grown significantly in the past year, with the number of staff more than tripling. This increased emphasis on health and safety personnel in our workplaces is further proof that rebar is our strength and safety is our commitment. Also, congratulations to the crew on the floor which have stepped up their efforts in regards to COVID19 policies while still maintaining a positive attitude, remaining focused, looking out for one another. The Safety culture has shifted in the shop in Calgary & safety has become everyone’s top priority.<\/p>\n

Un año sin accidentes en la fábrica de Calgary<\/strong><\/p>\n

El 2022 inicia bien para la fábrica de Calgary, ¡en donde pasaron más de 400 días sin accidentes registrables!<\/p>\n

Desplazamiento de cargas pesadas, objetos cortantes, manipulación de acero con máquinas industriales… El ámbito del acero de refuerzo es gratificante, exigente y también presenta riesgos. Son el esfuerzo colectivo, la prevención y la buena gestión de riesgos que les permiten a todos evolucionar en un medio más seguro y que valoriza las tareas de cada uno. El equipo trabaja arduamente para cambiar la cultura de seguridad mientras se enfoca en cuasi accidentes, limpieza, mantenimiento, competencias y capacitación. Este grupo lidera una reunión matinal muy profunda que incluye tramos para iniciar su jornada laboral. La estructura de estas reuniones es fantástica. El compromiso, la retroalimentación y la comunicación son sobresalientes, por decir lo menos.<\/p>\n

Las fábricas como la de AGF Rebar en Calgary son un ejemplo que seguir en todas nuestras divisiones. Recordemos justamente que en noviembre de 2019 su equipo obtuvo la certificación COR<\/a>. Esta certificación garantiza una muy buena gestión de riesgos en la fábrica y permite, entre otras cosas, minimizar la incidencia de lesiones y de enfermedades de los trabajadores.<\/p>\n

Por último, nos enorgullece ver que, en el último año, todo nuestro equipo de salud y seguridad en Canadá ha evolucionado considerablemente y el personal ha más que triplicado. Esta presencia adicional de personal de salud y seguridad en nuestros lugares de trabajo es una prueba más de que el acero de refuerzo es nuestro punto fuerte y de que la seguridad es nuestro compromiso. Además, felicitaciones a la tripulación en el piso que ha intensificado sus esfuerzos con respecto a las políticas de COVID19 mientras mantiene una actitud positiva, permanece enfocado, cuidándose unos a otros. La cultura de seguridad ha cambiado en el taller de Calgary y la seguridad se ha convertido en la principal prioridad de todos.<\/p>\n
