On the occasion of AGF’s 75th anniversary, we share with you a part of our history and achievements. <\/p>\n

Today, let’s talk about major constructions.<\/p>\n

We are indeed proud of our contribution to the construction of several iconic bridges around the world. Moreover, the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge, on which our teams have largely worked, was inaugurated 4 years ago, in June 2019.<\/p>\n

Let’s take a moment to look back at some of these exceptional projects.<\/p>\n

Samuel-De Champlain Bridge<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Montreal’s new Samuel-De Champlain Bridge is one of AGF’s signature projects since it has changed the urban landscape of Quebec’s largest city. Connecting the Island of Montreal to the South Shore, it is one of the main gateways to downtown. Fifty million vehicles cross the 3.4-kilometre bridge each year, making it one of the busiest in North America.<\/p>\n

Built between 2015 and 2018, the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge represented a significant challenge for the AGF team, since the schedule was extremely tight. This meant that preparing the drawings for the shop, fabrication and execution had to move at a rapid pace. It also involved working at heights, with two 170-metres towers for the cable-stayed section. A portion of the cages for the tower sections were prefabricated on site, which allowed for faster installation of the remaining rebar. This saved time on the planned schedule.<\/p>\n

Seventy-five AGF steelworkers, 20 plant workers, and 31 engineers and technicians contributed their expertise to this major link between Montreal and Brossard on the South Shore.<\/p>\n

Fun fact: AGF Group has an annual production capacity of over 589,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel. That’s enough to build the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge 36 times in one year!<\/p>\n

Confederation Bridge<\/strong><\/p>\n

AGF’s crews have built other notable bridges in its history. The Confederation Bridge linking New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island is one of the most iconic. At 12.9 kilometers in length, it is the longest bridge to span an ice-covered body of water. Opened in 1997, after four years of construction, this bridge represents one of the 20th century’s greatest engineering achievements in Canada.<\/p>\n

Rion Antirion Bridge<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Rion Antirion Bridge in Greece, built between 2000 and 2004, has the longest continuously suspended cable-stayed deck in the world (2,252 meters). <\/p>\n

Clearly, AGF’s experts have never balked at an engineering challenge!<\/p>\n

\nDe hecho, estamos orgullosos de nuestra contribución a la construcción de varios puentes icónicos en todo el mundo. Además, hace 4 años, en junio de 2019, se inauguró el puente Samuel-De Champlain, en el que nuestros equipos han trabajado en gran medida.<\/p>\n

Tomemos un momento para repasar algunos de estos proyectos excepcionales.<\/p>\n

Puente Samuel De Champlain<\/strong><\/p>\n

El puente Samuel-De Champlain en Montreal es uno de los proyectos emblemáticos de AGF, ya que ha transformado el paisaje urbano de la metrópolis. Conectando la isla de Montreal con su orilla sur, es una de las principales entradas al centro de la ciudad. Con una longitud de 3.4 kilómetros, es atravesado por 50 millones de vehículos cada año, lo que lo convierte en uno de los puentes más transitados de América del Norte.<\/p>\n

Construido entre 2015 y 2018, el puente Samuel-De Champlain representó un importante desafío para el equipo de AGF debido a un cronograma muy ajustado y, en consecuencia, a un ritmo rápido de preparación de dibujos de taller, fabricación y ejecución. Además, hubo trabajos en altura con dos torres de 170 metros para la parte de los cables de suspensión. Parte de las jaulas de las secciones de las torres se prefabricaron en el sitio, lo que permitió acelerar la instalación del resto del acero de refuerzo. Por lo tanto, se logró ahorrar tiempo en el cronograma previsto.<\/p>\n

Setenta y cinco ferrallistas, 20 trabajadores de fábrica y 31 ingenieros y técnicos de AGF aportaron su experiencia a este gran puente que une Montreal con Brossard.<\/p>\n

Sabéis? El Grupo AGF tiene una capacidad de producción anual de más de 589,000 toneladas de acero de refuerzo. ¡Eso sería suficiente para construir el puente Samuel-De Champlain 36 veces en un solo año!<\/p>\n

Puente de la Confederación<\/strong><\/p>\n

Los equipos de AGF han construido otros puentes fabulosos a lo largo de la historia. El puente de la Confederación, que une New Brunswick con la Isla del Príncipe Eduardo, es uno de los más emblemáticos. Con una longitud de 12.9 kilómetros, es el puente más largo construido sobre una extensión marítima sujeta a hielo. Inaugurado en 1997 después de cuatro años de trabajo, este puente representa uno de los mayores logros técnicos del siglo 20 en Canadá.<\/p>\n

Puente Rion Antirion<\/strong><\/p>\n

En Grecia, el puente Rion Antirion, construido entre 2000 y 2004, cuenta con la plataforma de tablero continuo con cables de suspensión más larga del mundo (2252 metros).<\/p>\n
