Spanning an impressive 67 kilometers and including a total of 26 stations when completed by 2027, this automated light rail system is revolutionizing the way Montrealers get around.

AGF’s contribution

As a supplier and installer of reinforcing steel, AGF is actively involved in the construction of 22 of the 26 REM stations, as well as contributing to the construction of 4 service buildings, 2 bus terminals, the South Shore overhead line and the Deux-Montagnes line.

To date, AGF has delivered over 12,000 metric tons of reinforcing steel, and plans to deliver a further 8,000 metric tons.

Inauguration of the first phase

July 31, 2023 marked a historic turning point for Montreal with the inauguration of the first phase of the REM. This phase, which includes 5 stations and links Brossard on the South Shore to Central Station in the heart of downtown Montreal, simplifies travel and considerably reduces journey times for many users. The REM is now in service 20 hours a day, running every 3 minutes and 45 seconds during rush hour. This achievement represents not only a milestone in the REM project, but also the culmination of a great project for AGF.

A promising future

As the REM continues to take shape, AGF’s involvement remains important.

In fact, 4 stations are still under construction: those at Montreal-Trudeau Airport, Technoparc, Édouard-Montpetit and McGill.

With its major role in the construction of the REM, AGF is proud to combine its expertise and dedication to help shape Montreal’s evolving transportation landscape towards more sustainable mobility.
