Each year, they rank among the most common injuries, affecting both employees\u2019 health and the smooth progress of projects. At AGF Group, we decided to create our <strong><em>back injury awareness month<\/em><\/strong>, running from January to mid-February, to remind everyone of the importance of protecting their back every day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #165788;\"><strong>\u201cBack injuries are not minor. They are often caused by repetitive movements, poor posture or a lack of preparation. With this awareness month, the goal was clear: to create lasting habits and strengthen our culture of prevention.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #165788;\"><strong>&#8211; Julie Tr\u00e9panier, HSE Director &#8211; Eastern Canada<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #165788;\">Concrete actions on the ground<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To bring this initiative to life, several measures were put in place:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>HSE toolbox talks<\/strong> on proper lifting techniques and safe work practices<\/li>\n<li><strong>Awareness videos<\/strong> tailored to the realities of our construction sites and shops<\/li>\n<li><strong>Contest<\/strong> <em>\u201cShow us your warm-up routine\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #165788;\">A contest that engaged the teams<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Prevention truly comes to life when employees get involved. The Armature Sherbrooke team, grand prize winner of our contest, demonstrated this with a creative and well-structured warm-up routine, proving that a simple daily ritual can make a real difference.<\/p>\n<p>Take the time to watch their video <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vgjC6gCg3U8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong> and get inspired! Their commitment shows that safety is, above all, about everyone actively participating.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #165788;\">Key practices to protect your back<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Here are the essentials to remember for daily back protection:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>WARM UP:<\/strong> Preparing your muscles before your shift significantly reduces risk.<\/li>\n<li><strong>LIFT SMART:<\/strong> Use your legs, keep the load close to your body, and pivot with your feet instead of twisting your back.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Lifting 50 lbs of rebar 10 to 20 feet long can put 300\u2013400 lbs of pressure on your lower back. Posture and balance matter as much as weight.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>STAY ALERT:<\/strong> Watch where you\u2019re going and be cautious of slippery surfaces (Clean, Mark, Avoid).<\/li>\n<li><strong>REDUCE YOUR LOAD &amp; LISTEN TO YOUR BODY:<\/strong> Ask for help, use proper equipment, and take breaks to avoid fatigue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #165788;\">In conclusion<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This awareness month reminded us of one key lesson: <strong>prevention comes to life when everyone gets involved.<\/strong> Shared routines, conversations and team engagement show that every action counts.
