{"id":68079,"date":"2026-05-12T13:20:36","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T17:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/?p=68079"},"modified":"2026-05-12T13:20:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T17:20:43","slug":"agf-rebar-wijewinen-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/groupeagf.com\/en\/the-network\/projects\/agf-rebar-wijewinen-project","title":{"rendered":"AGF at the heart of the Wije\u2019winen project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AGF Rebar has the opportunity to collaborate with Pomerleau on a deeply meaningful project in downtown Halifax (Nova Scotia) : the construction of the new Wije\u2019winen Centre, home of the Mi&#8217;kmaw Native Friendship Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The new 10,000 square meter Wije\u2019winen Centre will be an Indigenous led cultural and community hub, designed by and for the community. Once completed, it will house a health centre, education department, outdoor ceremonial gathering spaces, a birthing unit, and more than 70 programs serving over 8,000 Indigenous people. It will be a place to gather, heal, learn, celebrate, and belong.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #165788;\">Building community, one rebar at a time<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Our colleagues from Rendan Rebar in Halifax started to install rebar in July 2025 and will pursue it up to July 2026. A total of 375 metric tons of reinforcing steel is being fabricated and installed by them.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of the center is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #165788;\">A bit of history<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Since 1973, this non-profit and charitable organization has been providing culture-focused programs, services, and essential support to urban Indigenous people and their families across Nova Scotia. Today, it stands as a pillar of connection.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, a powerful tree sprouting ceremony marked the symbolic beginning of construction near Citadel Hill. During the ceremony, both a birch and an ash tree were planted to represent the deep roots that hold people together and reflect the spirit of the future Wije\u2019winen Centre.
