Profession: an engineer with AGF Access

An engineer working with AGF Group’s Scaffolding and Access division has many different responsibilities. It all begins with providing technical support to the sales department and the installation teams. The members of the technical department must validate feasibility and ensure that the installation standards developed by the sales reps and estimators are respected, following visits and analysis of project bids.

For more complex projects, the engineer works with the estimators to find efficient, cost-effective, safe and inventive solutions to meet customers’ various requirements. Other aspects of the engineer’s work with the sales department include developing estimating tools and training for products and work orders.

But it doesn’t end there! Once a contract is obtained, the engineer gets involved in carrying out the project. Many contracts require that an installation plan be submitted to the CSST [Quebec’s workers’ compensation board]. This is done by the engineers in the AGF Access technical department or by an engineering firm. Since the CSST also requires that compliance with the plan be verified, the engineer visits the worksite at the end of the project to certify that the installation respected the plan’s requirements.
Lastly, the engineer designs and develops scaffolding components for special projects and for the development of innovative products to increase installation possibilities and improve efficiency on the work site.

The engineer is thus involved throughout the process—from the initial estimate to the design and execution of the project
