Maxime Gendron provides an update on the economic situation

Since 1948, AGF has always been a pioneer in the reinforcing steel sector thanks to the automation of its machinery in the plants or the computerization of tasks over the years (use of scanning, qr code for tracking parts and orders, 3D BIM detailing).

However, we are currently hearing some words like inflation and recession. 

Does this have an impact on innovation projects? What about in the AGF context?

In the Canadian construction industry, the slowdown in projects this winter is primarily contextual and normal for this time of year. 

In fact, most contractors have put a certain number of projects or work sites on hold for the winter period in order to reschedule them in the near future.

However, in a context where the cost of our raw material – steel – has risen significantly, each member of the AGF Group must be aware of his or her impact on our future:

Through a concern for impeccable workmanship to reduce steel waste:

• Both in detailing, fabrication and installation;
• and by a better management of the scraps.

In addition, in order to always guarantee the best quality of service to our valued customers, AGF team members continue to focus on optimizing our business processes. Let’s not forget that the company has constantly innovated and continues to do so in 2022, notably through the implementation of a new ERP software (system for managing our financial and material resources) or the launch of our ESG (environment, social and governance) program. Every day, we can count on the expertise and leadership of each individual to move the AGF Group forward and better serve our clients.

The future of projects

It is good to know that AGF’s future is assured by its order book, which is very full again this year. The year 2023 even looks excellent for the entire Group! 

In addition, in view of the various regional infrastructure projects announced for the coming months, AGF members can see good opportunities to win these contracts. These include:

• 3 new wind farms in Alberta;
• The Broadway Subway Line in Vancouver;
• The Ontario Line, a 60,000 MT infrastructure project in Toronto;
• The new Île aux Tourtes Bridge (Greater Montreal) and the rehabilitation of the Île d’Orléans Bridge (Quebec);
• Not to mention the many upcoming projects in Latin America and Europe.
