Two big companies, General Motors (GM) and POSCO Chemical, are jointly building a plant in Bécancour. This facility will produce cathode active materials (one of the two electrodes used in a system that generates electrical current) for General Motors Ultium batteries in Quebec.
This is an exciting project assigned by Pomerleau, which AGF Rebar’s Trois-Rivières division has been involved in since January 20 of this year and will continue until March 2023.
Phase 1 of the work represents about 205 metric tons of rebar. This is a fast-track* project that requires stringent management and an extremely high level of safety. At least three other phases of construction are expected to follow.
Here is a 3D view of the work:

With support from this plant, General Motors plans to build one million electric vehicles in North America by the end of 2025.
*Fast track = A construction mode in which a project’s advancement is accelerated by overlapping the design, bidding and construction phases.
