What is the biggest thing you have learned as a leader over the course of your career?

The first thing I observed in my career, and that I quickly understood, is the need to focus on teamwork at all times.
In rebar, as in any other business or service, not much will be achieved—or much less in any case—without an emphasis on good communication and listening to all team members. And I’m talking about team in the broadest sense of the word: colleagues, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
Making everyone feel they are part of a team and that their work and their talent have an impact somewhere in the company’s value chain should top the list of attributes that define a good leader.
The other thing I learned as a leader was to develop self-confidence.
Every career path has moments of great satisfaction interspersed with more difficult times. If you have full confidence in your abilities and judgment, and if you can rely on your team, then anything becomes possible.
So, two key learnings: valuing teamwork and the importance of developing self-confidence.

Durante su carrera, ¿cuál ha sido su mayor aprendizaje como líder?

Lo primero que mi trayectoria me ha permitido constatar, lo cual aprendí rápidamente, es que se debe valorar el trabajo en equipo en todo momento.
En el área del acero de refuerzo, como en la de todas las demás ocupaciones y servicios, se logra poco si no se privilegia una buena comunicación y una buena escucha entre todos los miembros del equipo. Me refiero a “equipo” en el sentido amplio; es decir, colegas, clientes, proveedores y las demás partes participantes.
Hacerles sentir a todos que forman parte de un equipo, y que su trabajo y su talento tienen un impacto en la cadena de valores de la empresa, debería encabezar la lista de atributos que definen a un buen líder.
Otro aprendizaje, como líder, ha sido desarrollar la confianza en sí mismo.
A lo largo de una carrera, el camino está lleno de momentos de gran satisfacción, pero también de periodos más difíciles. Si se tiene plena confianza en sus medios y en su juicio, y además se puede contar con su equipo, todo es posible.
Por consiguiente, hay dos aprendizajes esenciales: valorar el trabajo en equipo y la importancia de desarrollar la confianza en sí mismo.
