On May 14, our FondAcier fundraising evening brought together the extended AGF family, partners and committed industry leaders around a shared ambition: building a better future.
Under the honorary presidency of Maud Cohen, President and CEO of Polytechnique Montréal, the event carried special significance in a place deeply connected to AGF’s history.
It was at Polytechnique Montréal that it all began in 1948, when Laurent Gendron completed his engineering studies with a bold idea: to specialize in reinforcing steel, a field that did not yet exist in Canada. Supported by a professor who believed in him and even lent him the funds needed to get started, he founded AGF. The early days were humble and people-focused. Teams would gather each morning on a park bench in Parc Lafontaine to plan the day’s projects together.
Today, the connection with Polytechnique remains stronger than ever. In that spirit, Serge Gendron announced a major commitment of $1.5 million over 10 years to support students, research and innovation, helping Polytechnique educate the builders of tomorrow.
The evening unfolded in a bright and welcoming atmosphere designed to encourage meaningful conversations. Highlights included a train car transformed into a museum and an engineers’ table, offering guests a unique perspective on the reinforcing steel industry and the projects carried out by AGF. Thanks to the generosity of attendees and partners, we raised $325,000 for charitable organizations across Canada.
The event also highlighted La Tablée des Chefs, in collaboration with the École hôtelière de la Montérégie, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting the next generation and investing in education.
