Just before 2025 arrived, a new team joined the AGF family: Katy Steel, in Texas.
In early February, Marie-Pier Lapointe, VP of Human Resources, and I had the pleasure of visiting them for the first time! You can imagine my excitement at the prospect of meeting the team, seeing how their values are reflected in their operations, and discovering the connections that unite us—one of my favorite activities. We were warmly welcomed (an understatement!) by the local team, led by Scott Rupard (ont the right side on the picture below) and Robert Sanchez (on the left side).
This family-owned business, where Scott represents the second generation, employs around 60 people, with an average of nearly 10 years of service—a true sign of employee satisfaction and strong team cohesion. On-site, there is an administrative office located next to a large plant, with a second plant just a few miles away. Katy Steel stands out for its diverse projects, including water treatment facilities, public transportation solutions, municipal projects, and much more. In this sector, it is common for clients to handle the rebar installation themselves, and that’s exactly what we do.
Each business unit has its own unique atmosphere, and one of my greatest joys is discovering it. When I asked the Katy Steel team about their work environment, they gave me about twenty different descriptions! Every answer was positive, yet completely unique.
So, I’ll leave the final word to Robert Sanchez, who perfectly sums up what makes his team special: “Here at Katy Steel Company, we have each other’s back!”
