We are excited to announce our involvement in the new Duravit Production Plant in Matane, Quebec, which is set to become the world’s first climate-neutral ceramic production facility. This groundbreaking project marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of sustainability within the sanitary industry, positioning Duravit as a pioneer in eco-friendly manufacturing practices.
Project Overview
AGF completed construction of the Duravit plant in December 2024, utilizing an impressive 130 tons of steel. Throughout the construction process, we collaborated closely with an average of three AGF scrap dealers on site to ensure that operations ran smoothly and efficiently.
Environmental Impact
One of the most remarkable features of this new ceramic plant is its commitment to reducing carbon emissions. At full capacity, the facility is expected to save over 8,500 tons of CO₂ per year compared to traditional gas kilns. This substantial reduction in emissions underscores Duravit’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable production methods.
Economic Benefits
In addition to its environmental benefits, the new production plant will also have a positive impact on the local economy. The facility has created 240 jobs for skilled workers, providing valuable employment opportunities in the region. This influx of jobs is expected to contribute to an economic upswing in Matane, further enhancing the community’s prosperity.
Looking Ahead
The Duravit Production Plant is set to enter into service in 2025, marking a significant milestone as the first production site for Duravit AG in North America. This facility not only represents a major investment in sustainable manufacturing but also reinforces Duravit’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the industry.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Duotech Construction for their collaboration and support in bringing this ambitious project to life. As we move forward, we are excited to see the positive impact this facility will have on both the environment and the local community.
