Health and Safety
21 September 2026

This September, several new faces are joining our teams. This is great news, but it also comes with an important responsibility: making sure every new employee has the knowledge and the right habits to work safely from day one.
Recent safety reviews remind us that many incidents can be prevented through simple actions. A cluttered work area, a procedure that is not followed properly or a lack of experience can quickly create a hazardous situation.
That is why properly welcoming and supporting new employees plays such an important role in our Health & Safety culture.
Before beginning their first task on a work site or in a plant, every new employee must complete their Health & Safety orientation training. A large part of this training is delivered through a series of videos developed internally. This helps ensure that our safety standards, rules and expectations are clearly understood from the start.
Training then continues directly in the workplace. Working alongside an experienced colleague helps new employees become familiar with safe work methods, the risks associated with their role and the right habits to adopt every day.
Safety also depends on setting clear expectations from day one. A tool left out of place, a blocked walkway or a skipped step in a procedure may seem minor, but these situations can have real consequences.
Managers and supervisors also have an essential role to play. When a deviation is observed, addressing it quickly not only helps correct the situation, but also provides an opportunity to understand what happened.
Asking questions, reinforcing expectations and taking the time to explain the reasons behind a safety rule all help build better habits and maintain a safe work environment for everyone.
Our Priorities for September
“Welcoming a new employee means giving them the tools, knowledge and habits they need to work safely from day one.” – Julie Trépanier, Health & Safety Director
A successful onboarding is about more than teaching work methods. From the very first days, it helps bring our Health & Safety culture to life in the workplace.
