At AGF, occupational health and safety is much more than a priority; it is a core value that guides our actions every day. Several business units have recently achieved remarkable milestones in consecutive days without a lost-time injury (LTI), demonstrating the strength of a culture built on vigilance, collaboration and prevention.
Strong performance across the group
Several AGF business units continue to maintain outstanding safety records:
- Port Coquitlam Shop (British Columbia, Canada): Over 1,800 days without a lost-time injury
- Calgary Shop (Alberta, Canada): Over 1,800 days without a lost-time injury
- London Shop (Ontario, Canada): Over 1,400 days without a lost-time injury
- Scarborough Shop (Ontario, Canada): Over 1,000 days without a lost-time injury
- Kitchener Shop (Ontario, Canada): Over 600 days without a lost-time injury
- Palmerston Shop (Ontario, Canada): Over 600 days without a lost-time injury
- All of our Ontario job sites (Canada): Over 1,000 days without a lost-time injury
These results reflect a shared commitment to consistency, accountability and safety excellence across teams and regions.
What is the secret behind these health and safety successes?
Teamwork and a proactive approach across operations
For Kamran Ahmad, Health and Safety Manager – West, the achievement is both operational and deeply human:
“This is thanks to our proactive approach to continuously improving our work methods and machine safety, but above all, it is thanks to teamwork and close collaboration with operations, both in the shop and on job sites. Everyone has a role to play in staying vigilant. Our main goal is to build a healthy and safe work environment for everyone.”
This vigilance takes on its full meaning on the floor, where workers and supervisors play an essential role every day. They are the ones who apply prevention measures, remain attentive to risks and are directly exposed while carrying out operations. Through their rigour, commitment and shared safety reflexes, they actively contribute to protecting their colleagues and maintaining a safe work environment. These health and safety milestones are above all a reflection of their collective efforts, and we want to recognize their essential contribution.
A safety culture supported by strong leadership
This culture of safety extends far beyond frontline teams and is reinforced throughout the organization. Maxime Gendron, President and CEO of AGF Group, highlights the importance of leadership involvement and robust processes:
“We are seeing strong collaboration across all levels of management. The audits we conduct, combined with managers’ direct involvement in those audits, make a significant difference in the field.”
This active leadership presence helps identify potential risks early and supports the continuous improvement of health and safety practices.
Vision 2027: Building an even stronger safety culture
The work continues with a clear ambition: to further strengthen and anticipate health and safety performance across the organization. Over the coming years, AGF will focus on four key priorities:
- Enhancing health and safety practices on jobsites
- Standardizing safety performance indicators
- Optimizing onboarding with a stronger safety focus
- Strengthening pre-employment assessments
By reinforcing these initiatives, AGF aims to build an even more integrated, proactive and sustainable health and safety culture for the future.
